Two Wins Leave Scheidt One Point Short

Brazil holds the top two places after six races at the ILCA 6 Men’s World Championship in Vilamoura, with Francisco Dal Ri leading Erik Scheidt by a single point

Erik Scheidt won both of Tuesday’s races at the 2026 ILCA 6 Men’s World Championship in Vilamoura, Portugal, and ended the day one point behind his compatriot. Francisco Dal Ri answered Scheidt’s two wins with a third and a second to keep the lead of the 60-boat international fleet on 9 net points, with Scheidt on 10. Brazil now holds the top two places at the halfway stage of the qualifying series.

Croatia’s Toma Smirčić stays third on 20 points, 10 behind Scheidt. After a 13th place in the opening race, Smirčić strung together four consecutive top-two finishes before a 14th in Race 6, which he now discards.

Light rain fell in the morning before a southeasterly breeze settled at about 130 degrees. Race 5 was sailed in 12 to 13 knots, and the wind eased to around 11 to 12 knots for Race 6. The championship is fully on schedule, with all six races planned for the first three days completed.

Spain’s Alberto Medel Castrillón is fourth overall with 21 net points, ahead of Italy’s Lorenzo Ghirotti on 34. Ireland’s Conor Cronin is sixth with 44 and Portugal’s Kuzey Karis seventh with 48. The Croatians Bepo Duplančić and Roko Tomšić are eighth and ninth, and Brazil’s Felipe Strassburger completes the top 10.

Racing continues in Vilamoura, and the championship ends on 2 October.
