Christian Hamilton, Aurélien Pierroz, Oscar Engström and Jeppe Borch advanced directly to the quarter finals after a demanding round robin in Hamilton Harbour. The repechage now offers the remaining teams another route into the knockout stages.
The 74th Bermuda Gold Cup moves into its decisive stages on Friday, with the repechage set to determine the remaining quarter final places in Hamilton Harbour.
Christian Hamilton of Great Britain, France’s Aurélien Pierroz, Sweden’s Oscar Engström and Denmark’s Jeppe Borch secured direct qualification after each recorded eight wins in the round robin. Three of the four skippers were making their first appearance at the event, underlining the impact of the new generation of match racing talent.
American skipper Chris Poole narrowly missed out on direct qualification. His defeat to Australia’s Tom Picot in the final round robin match left him with seven wins, just one short of the four automatic qualifiers.
The repechage gives the remaining eight teams another opportunity to reach the quarter finals. According to the event schedule, the stage is due to conclude on Friday before the knockout racing gets under way.
This year’s edition also marks a significant change for the historic event, with the introduction of a fleet of modified FarEast 28R keelboats. The boats, fitted with symmetrical spinnakers, have replaced the International One Design fleet traditionally associated with the Bermuda Gold Cup.
The quarter finals and semi finals are scheduled as first to three points knockout series, while the final and petite final are set for Sunday, 18 October.
The Bermuda Gold Cup is the penultimate stage of the 2026 World Match Racing Tour.
