80th Sydney Hobart Set for a Boxing Day Start

The 80th Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race starts on Sydney Harbour at 1pm on Boxing Day, December 26, sending the fleet on the 628-nautical-mile course down the Australian coast and across Bass Strait to the Derwent. Entries close October 24, with organizers expecting a fleet well over 100 boats after 128 lined up for the 2025 edition.

Yachts entered range from 36 to 100 feet, hosted as always by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia. Bass Strait’s reputation for turning the race with a single weather change remains the defining hazard of the course.
